Early Creation Process

When making Neon I had to think hard about what I wanted to do since I was a one man team and it is early on in my career.and I am not the most skilled game designer by any means yet. I also keep being told do not attempt a super ambitious topic (which I might have done anyway and learned the hard way) so for this idea I wanted to put together something that would be doable for a solo and less experienced game dev like me. So i decided the smartest thing to do would be to lock down satisfying gameplay.

For 40 hours, I coded, play tested, and tuned the gameplay until I found it nostalgic to old platformers but new and satisfying at the same time. I built the game around it and started making maps. Once I had made some maps and environmental objects, I moved onto graphics.

When deciding the look of the game, I decided the, like the gameplay, it should share an old school vibe and what better old school vibe than the 80s. The vibrant neon splashing over the shinmetal created such an attractive color pallet in my opinion.

That leaves the state of the game as it is now. All though many aspects were still untouched, I can comment on them in later devlogs.

Thanks
